Prospective students; admission requirement and how to apply

admission requirements

The following categories of school candidates would be admitted in consonance with the guide lines by the national council for tertiary education (NCTE) and the national accreditation board(NAB) Ghana.
1. candidates with GCE O-Level SSCE or WASSCE qualification (aggregates 6-24) in six subjects including English and Mathematics and Senior Secondary School certificate-SSSCE(aggregate 6-24) in six subjects including core English, Core Mathematics, Core Science(integrated) or a Core social studies and three elective subjects in the west African senior secondary schools certificate-WASSCE (aggregate 36 - A1 -C6) in six subjects core English, Core Mathematics, Core Science(integrated) or a Core social studies and three elective subjects.
2. Candidates with GCE A-Level qualification or equivalent; candidates in this category must have, in addition to the GCE O-Level requirement listed above with at least three passes at the advance level including general paper
3.Professional Certificate and Tertiary Level Diploma Holders; the level of placement of professional certificate and tertial level diploma holders would depend on the assessment of their certificates or diplomas in relation to the program described. The general guide lines are as follows;
i. Professional certificate holders; the placement level of candidates would depend on assessment of the certificates by the relevant faculty or department.
ii. Holders of UCC (and affiliated institution) diploma; a minimum of second class lower is required for admission to levels 200 or 300.

iii. Holders of diplomas awarded by other tertiary institutions, the relevant faculty/department will assess the curricullum content of the diploma in relation on the program on case by case basis.
iv. HND candidates; the level of placement of candidates would depend on the match between the content of the diploma and CUCT/UCC programme. Where there is a good match, a minimum of second class upper division is required for admission to level 300 where the match is not good the candidate id admitted to level 200.
4. Mature students; To qualify as a mature student an applicant must be at least twenty-five(25) years old at the time of admission and show prove of age with birth certificate or any legitimate document with prove of date of birth with at it's five years old at the time of application. The mature applicant must pass entry examination-including two papers in the course area and a general paper.
A candidate without credit passes in English and Mathematics from GECU O-level, SSSCE and WASCE would be required special papers in English language and Mathematics.
5.In cases of foreign certificates or in cases not outlined above, a candidate may be required to obtain an equivalent letter from the National Accreditation Board to help the admission board in making its decisions.
6. The relevant academic departments would be consulted in order to determine credits accepted toward a chosen discipline.

international students

Admission requirements and procedures for international students are the same as outlined above. In addition, every international student must;
1. Complement a financial statement that clearly demonstrates ability to pall expenses associated with his/her study at CUC-T, including tution, accommodation, books, food, health care, and other expenses.
2. Pay tution and all other fees in full and in advance in each academic year, before course registration
3. Submit passport and other travel documents for verification
4. Submit a police clearance from home country
5. Reside in the University College-hostel in the first year.
6. Register with the local Ghana police service in Secondi-Takoradi.

Proficiency in english language

All students whose nation language or previous language of instruction is not English(such as students from Francophone countries) must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, comprehending and speaking English. All students applying for admission whose previous language of instruction is not English may present TOEFEL(Test Of English as a Foreign Language) results or will be required to write an English Language Proficiency Test(ELPT) and pass it. Candidates will have to arrange with TOEFEL/ELPT for their transcript to be transferred to the College for processing. The University College is not obliged to make arrangement r register with any such bodies.

It is the responsibility of all students to obtain the necessary immigration documents and visas required to study in Ghana. International students are required to show evidence of appropriate entry and permission to study in Ghana before they can be admitted or registered into programmes. Immigration documents must be continually updated or renewed and not allowed to lapse at any time during the international student's academic career at CUCT. Information on residence permit application may be obtained from the office of the Registrar.
